Out of Your Mind

What if I told you the best thing you could do to move forward in life is to lose your mind?

Well, some may think I’m actually crazy... just ask my wife and people that I work closely with. Half the time I’m lost in thought or completely not listening at all...  I’m workin on it, okay!?

But seriously, so much, if not all of the Christian life we’re called to walk requires us to lose our mind.

Lose our mind to find His. To be so out of our mind that we’re in His.

There is no way around the Christian life being of a spiritual nature. This will in turn affect our natural daily life sure, but it starts and progresses in a reborn and daily renewed mind. A mind set on things above and not beneath.

COLOSSIANS 3:1-2 “Therefore IF you have been raised UP with Christ, KEEP seeking the things above, where Christ IS, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things ABOVE, not on the things that are on EARTH.”

You’ve heard it said, “you can be so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good.” well, I like this saying better, “YOU CAN BE SO HEAVENLY MINDED THAT YOU ARE EARTHLY AMAZING.”

Notice this passage says keep seeking, this my friends is a choice. A choice that is backed and carried out by the Holy Spirt of God.

A choice to DWELL on,

“whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is RIGHT, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is of GOOD repute, if there is any EXCELLENCE, and if anything WORTHY of PRAISE, DWELL on these things.” —PHILIPPIANS 4:8

If we allow our thoughts to be consumed with this life, and the things therein, we risk having a conversation with Jesus much like Peter had. Let’s look:

“But He (Jesus) turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your MIND on GOD’S interests, but MAN’S.” —MATTHEW 16:23

Woah, strong language huh? If it’s serious business to Jesus what we set our mind’s on, and it should be serious business to us too. Not only do I not want to be rebuked by the Lord, let alone be called Satan, but I certainly never want to be in the way of His plans. I want to be a road in which the Lord travels to carry out His purposes on earth, not a road block! Family of God, lets determine to love Him with not only with our heart, strength, and soul, but our MIND as well. (MARK 12:30)

These are some indicators that our mind needs to be renewed: being quick to judge others motives or intentions, desiring to always be noticed or applauded, “that’s what she said” and/or inappropriate jokes or thoughts that come quickly to our minds in the middle of conversations. Of course there are many more examples that could be said, but these few examples are not of His Kingdom or nature.

Let’s allow Him to capture, purify, and transform our patterns of thinking. That we would be a spiritually minded people, able to understand His thoughts and His ways, for they are truly higher.

So let’s all lose our minds together!

Here are a few more scriptures to help...

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But WE have the MIND of CHRIST.” —1 CORINTHIANS 2:14-16

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be TRANSFORMED, by the RENEWING of your MIND...”  —ROMANS 12:2

Practical step - This week, every time you choose to check your Instagram or Facebook, let it serve as a reminder to choose first to set your mind on an attribute of God, and to thank Him for the work of that attribute in your life.
